Vote for the Girls is devoted for voting for only female contestants.

Vote for the Girls began on April 28, 2010, after the elimination of Siobahn Magnus and fans began to vote for Crystal Bowersox to the American Idol season nine finale and lost to Lee DeWyze. We are devoted to voting for ONLY the female contestants on the reality television series: American IdolThe X Factor, and The Voice,. Smaller campaigns have also been started for ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, and NBC’s America’s Got Talent.

On Vote for the Girls (VFTG), fans of the site are encouraged to “only vote for female contestants” – call in and vote for who, they view, as to end the male winning streak on Idol. Our purpose is “to support voting for the entertaining contestants who the producers would love to see win on American Idol” in order to make it a “real good show.”

History

YouTube forever changed at 10:00 p.m. on April 28, 2010 when Siobahn Magnus’ elimination left Crystal Bowersox as the last female standing on the ninth season of American Idol. The original moderators were Ava Zinn, Holly Everman, and Robyn Hurd and the lone villain was Archibald Coolranch as well as the biggest enemy is Dave Della Terza’s Vote for the Worst. The campaign was to finally get Crystal Bowersox to win it all, but the American public didn’t listen. The following season, the first five contestants on American Idol were females and following the elimination of Pia Toscano, the “Vote for Haley and Lauren” campaign on Vote for the Girls was mostly successful and the phrase “pulling a Brandi Chastain” was born (this only works when Ava Zinn does it).

On April 18, 2011, founder, host, and executive producer Ava Zinn, announced on her YouTube channel that she was auditioning for the 11th season of American Idol. Ava’s audition at Heinz Field (now Acrisure Stadium) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania not only changed her life (though she did not get a chance to meet the then-judges of Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson), but Ava went undercover and exposed the prebvious season’s bias against female contestants while at the same time Ava also met Erika van Pelt and Hallie Day in that audition. However, on April 7, 2012, Jessica Sanchez was saved from elimination in a memorable Vote for the Girls scene and that moment put Vote for the Girls on the map for good following the victory of Melanie Amaro on the first season of The X Factor.

Vote for the Girls added The Voice in the fall of 2012, where we were successful in getting Cassadee Pope as the first woman to win the third season of The Voice. Other victories of The Voice include Danielle Bradbery, Tessanne Chin, Alisan Porter, Chloe MK, Brynn Cartelli, Chevel Shepard, and Maelyn Jarmon. While on The Voice, the victories of Bradbery gained more fans and followers while Jarmon broke more records surpassing Pope.

In April 2013, Vote for the Girls finally broke the then-five season “boy bias” after the elimination of Lazaro Arbos and took down Vote for the Worst, which was shutting down following Candice Glover being announced as the winner of the twelfth season of American Idol on May 15, 2013. The following season, Vote for the Girls met Jena Asciutto, where she went on a long winning streak and surpassed Lauren Alaina as Asciutto lasted more weeks on American Idol. That season on The Voice, we met Christina Grimmie and was going for a fourth victory, but in a controversial moment, Josh Kaufman won instead giving Vote for the Girls its first loss.

Dancing with the Stars was added as a built-in make-up competition in the fall of 2014 joining So You Think You Can Dance and America’s Got Talent. Our victories on Dancing with the Stars are Rumer Willis, Bindi Irwin, Laurie Hernandez, Hannah Brown, and Kaitlyn Bristowe. So You Think You Can Dance victories include Lauren Froderman, Melanie Moore, Eliana Girard, Amy Yakima, Gaby Diaz, and Hannahlei Cabanilla. However, Grace VanderWaal and Darci Farmer have been the victories of America’s Got Talent.

Vote for the Girls‘ original run ended on May 23, 2021 after 12 seasons. However, after a Change.org petition, Ava Zinn decided to bring Vote for the Girls back for a resurrection for a thirteenth season on April 7, 2024 after a three year hiatus.
